Tainted Blood, the fifth book in The Vampire Reclamation Project, again brings Arel, William and Rolphe together to understand why they react and act to life the way they do.
So much is explored and revealed in this book, that writing a review without giving away spoilers is soooo difficult.
But first, Arel almost has a relationship with a woman...his new next door neighbor, Elise. That ends almost immediately, but Elise becomes a big part of this book. Michael and Carey spend many hours with Elise, and help teach her how to raise a puppy. They also discuss many subjects with her, which, since they're angels, had a positive effect on her. She discovers why she acts the way she does...which is kind of the theme of this book.
Disappointed that his brief relationship with Elise was such a failure, Arel decides to visit William and Annabel in London. While there, Rolphe calls and tells Arel he has the perfect woman for him. Arel travels to Paris and meets Claire. He's immediately head over heels in love with her.
William is in a funk. Depressed. He can't understand why he feels this way. Annabel travels to Chicago, one reason is so she doesn't have to be around Claire, and another reason is William and his odd detachment and increasing silence.
All the Chicago people welcome Annabel back for a visit, and Annabel meets Elise.
Arel returns to Chicago and readies his home for Claire; they plan to wed when she arrives. Arel is Arel and he cleans (or rather has others clean) everything; his home, his car, his yard. The visit isn't quite the way he envisioned. Claire is all about service to others, which is something he admired about her, but Arel doesn't understand why she wants him to sell his home and all possessions so they can donate the money to worthy causes.
William gets a call from Rolphe's girlfriend and she urges him to please try and see what's wrong with Rolphe because he won't answer his phone or door. Although William still doesn't trust or like Rolphe, he decides to go and see Rolphe before he dies.
From there, William, Rolphe and Arel go deep, very deep.
I dare not explain more because this is a beautiful story of discovering and accepting self.
